How to flash Android 2.3.6 Official Firmware for Galaxy Pocket

You can then easily update your Galaxy Pocket S5300 to XXLJ4 Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread official stock firmware. Please note, this tutorial don’t require a custom recovery such as CWM recovery or a rooted Galaxy Pocket S5300 because to install this firmware we will use ODIN utility. After installing official firmware XXLJ4 Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread you can always root your Galaxy Pocket S5300 with the help of proper rooting method. Remember, your custom rom wil be removed and your rom will be a Stock Rom.

WARNING: Do not try this on any Android device except for Galaxy Pocket. You might brick your device. Don't blame me if you bricked your device.

Required Files:

XXLJ4 Firmware.zip: Download Here  (Do not extract this zip file. Keep it on zip mode.)
Odin 3.07: Download Here  (Do not extract this zip file. Keep it on zip mode.)

STEPS TO INSTALL:

1. Extract Firmware zip file that you downloaded already from above link, you will get a .tar.md5 file and some other files.

2. Extract Odin zip file and you will get Odin3 v3.07.exe along with few other files.

3. Power off your phone. Wait 5-6 seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off.

4. Now, put the Galaxy Pocket S5300 phone in Download Mode by pressing pressing and holding down the Volume Down and Home buttons while pressing the Power button. A Warning! screen will come up; press Volume Up button to enter Download Mode. [You may require to press Volume Up to enter into download mode in green Robot screen]

5. Now run Odin3 v3.07.exe (see Step 2) as an Administrator because Admin privileges is required to complete the process smoothly.

6. Now connect your Galaxy Pocket S5300 with your PC using USB cable. A message will arrive under Odin’s message box in the bottom left saying “Added!!”. If you don’t get the same then you should try another USB port (try USB port located in back in your desktop PC). If that too don’t work then you should then reinstall the driver. If you successfully see the “Added!!” message in Odin then you are ready to go in next step. You should also see COM port with a number in Yellow if you successfully added your device.

7. Select these files in Odin at respective buttons from extracted S5300XXLJ4 firmware folder :

1. Click the PDA Button, and select the .tar.md5 file here (Required)
2. Click the Phone Button, and select file with *modem* in its name (Optional)
3. Click the CSC Button, and select file with *csc* in its name (Optional)
4. Click the PIT Button, and select the .pit file (Optional)

8. In Odin window, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are selected. Also, make sure that Re-Partition checkbox is selected, only if you are using a .pit file (see Step 7.4).

9. Double check everything that we mentioned in Step 7 & Step 8 above. Now, once satisfied hit the START button to begin the flashing process.

10. Once flashing completed, your phone will restart and soon you will see a PASS message with green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. You can now unplug the USB cable to disconnect your device from computer.

That's it! Your Galaxy Pocket is now on XXLJ4 Firmware. Go to Settings > About Phone and verify your firmware.

Fix for Bricked/Bloop Toop Issue:

  • If your Galaxy Pocket is stuck at booting animation after Step 10, then go to Recovery Mode. (Press and holder Volume Up Button + Home Button + Power Button all at once.)
  • In recovery mode use Volume keys to navigate and use the Home Button to select.
  • And go to 'Wipe data/Factory Reset' and select 'Wipe Cache Partition'.
  • Please note, performing wiping task will erase your device internal memory data and not external SD card data.
  • Now select 'Reboot System Now' and your system will be rebooted.
  • Then your device will be okay. It is not bricked anymore. Enjoy!
